Marion starts its election process
MARION — Nomination papers for the May 15 town election have been open since Feb. 3 for thirteen positions.
Norm Hills is up for re-election both as a Selectman and for his spot on the Planning Board. He intends to run again for Selectman, but not for his planning board position, as his main goal on that board was to approve and start to implement the Master Plan.
Other Planning Board members Chris Collings and Eileen Marum both plan to run for re-election. Marum said that “the Planning Board has provided me with an opportunity to give back to this vibrant coastal community, and it has been an honor and a privilege to work with other Board members, committees and town residents.”
She attends many workshops and conferences to further her knowledge of issues from subsidized housing to the regulation of marijuana.
“As a lifelong learner, I take continuing education courses/classes like those offered by the Citizen Planner Training Collaborative seriously and with the goal of effectively analyzing and solving problems and arriving at sound decisions that accommodate both abutters, landowners and developers,” Marum said.
Patricia DeCosta will run again for the Board of Assessors this year.
Dorothy Brown was appointed to the Board of Health in August to fill Elizabeth Dunn’s spot after she resigned. Brown feels that she has “learned so much and could be of even more help.”
Kate Ellen Houdelette and Ron Gerhart are both up for re-election on the School Committee. Neither has indicated whether they plan to run again for their spots. Christine Marcolini has also not responded when asked whether she would run for her spot on the Upper Cape School Committee. Paul Goulet is also up for re-election on the Old Rochester Regional School Committee, with no indication of whether he will run or not.
Both members of the Marion Open Space Acquisition Committee who are up for re-election, Amanda Chace and Jeffrey Oakes, will run again.
The town’s Moderator, Brad Gordon, has said he will run again.
Nomination papers may be picked up at the Town House, at 8 Spring Street and must be returned to the Town House by 5 p.m. on March 23. The League of Women voters will hold its candidates night on April 30 at the Marion Music Hall at 7 p.m.
