Marion's ‘Gardens by the Sea’ will celebrate 13 years

Jul 4, 2015

Garden gates across Marion will be open for St. Gabriel’s Episcopal Church’s 13th annual “Gardens by the Sea Tour” on Friday, July 10.

The event will feature a self-guided tour of private gardens located on the shore and inland. Gardens may be visited between 10:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.

“We have six beautiful gardens this year,” said Hannah Milhench, the tour’s organizer. “It’s so much fun to have so many people participate.”

Some years, the event has drawn as many as 400 people from the South Coast, Milhench said.

The garden’s locations aren’t revealed until the day of the tour. Maps are handed out at the Capt. Hadley House to those who purchased tickets.

During the tour, lunch will be served from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Kittansett Club. Milhench said the lunch was brought back this year after not including it in last year’s event.

Proceeds from the tour are used to fund local and global outreach programs organized by the church.

“It’s all put to a good cause,” Milhench said.

Tickets for the tour cost $20. Tickets for lunch and the tour cost $45. Tour tickets are available in Marion at The General Store, The Bookstall and St. Gabriel’s Church.

To purchase tickets for lunch and the tour, mail a check to: Frederica See, 11 Bayberry Lane, Marion, MA 02738. Make checks payable to “Gardens by the Sea.” Tickets will be mailed back.
