Mattapoisett amends covid sick leave policy

Jan 12, 2021

As the covid pandemic approaches its 10th month, Selectmen approved the amending of the town’s Covid-era sick-leave policy at a Jan. 12 meeting.

Under the federal CARES Act, employers were required to give 14 days of paid sick leave for any workers who were covid-positive or in close contact with a confirmed case. According to Town Administrator Michael Lorenco, that policy expired at the end of the past year.

“Just wanted to make sure we could get something in place before we get too deep into January,” Lorenco said.

Now approved, the town will continue to allow paid administrative leave for town employees who test positive following exposure on the job. Those who get sick on their personal time or from vacation travel will have to use their sick days to quarantine.
