Mattapoisett comes out on top with low snow removal cost
Compared to some of the other towns in the county, Mattapoisett’s snow and ice removal expenditures were modest.
Data collected by Plymouth County Highway Association shows that out of seven towns, Mattapoisett had the lowest cost per mile at $2,193 for 2015 with a total of $129,362.
Selectmen commended Highway Surveyor Barry Denham for keeping costs low and making good decisions throughout the storms.
“I think that speaks volumes of Mr. Denham and the workers of his department,” said Town Administrator Mike Gagne.
With more than $10,000, Hanover had the highest expenditure per mile, followed by $7,682 for East Bridgewater, $6,046 for Plympton and $4,346 for Duxbury. Lakeville and Middleboro spent $3,463 and $3,600, respectively.
The town got other good news recently as well. The state will give the town $34,000 to fix potholes and other road “defects” that resulted from the storm. An additional $26 to $30,000 is expected in storm relief come October.
