The Mattapoisett Council on Aging introduces its weekly exercise schedule to help seniors “live longer, stronger”. Call 508-758-4110 for more information.
- Qigong: The art and science of using breathing techniques, gentle movement and meditation. Qigong can be practiced standing, seated or lying down. Classes are Mondays and Fridays at 10 a.m. Call for fees.
- Strength and Balance: Each class includes low-impact chair exercises, weights and stretching appropriate for all fitness levels. Beginners are welcome. Classes are Mondays and Wednesdays at 12:00 p.m. with a $3 suggested donation.
- Yoga: A functional training workout designed to increase mobility, strength and balance, yoga classes meet Tuesdays and Fridays at 9:45 a.m. for a $3 fee.
- Cardio and Strength: This hour-long energizing class is set to a variety of music genres. Classes meet Wednesdays at 10 a.m. with a $3 suggested donation.
- Walking Group: New for April, the group now has “walking buddies” who accompany participants. Walks are approximately 3 miles in length and meet Tuesdays at 9:45 a.m. Walks begin at 10 a.m.
- Line Dancing: Beginners and advanced dancers are welcome. Dance sessions are held at the Congregational Church’s Reynard Hall (use Mechanic Street entrance) on Fridays from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. for a suggested donation of $2.
- Water Aerobics: A van will bring participants to the New Bedford YMCA for the 9 a.m. class. Participants can also opt to use a treadmill at the facility. Van pick-ups begin in Mattapoisett at 8 am. Please bring $2 for a van donation and $7 for the class.
