MATTAPOISETT — The town’s Land Trust is cancelling its annual Vernal Pool Exploration on April 18. 

“Social distancing mandates in light of the COVID-19 pandemic will not allow safe operation of this event,” Land Trust organizers said. But they encouraged Mattapoisett residents to “Get outside on a sunny day and take a walk,” and look for frog and salamander eggs. 

Grace Preserve (in the Old Aucoot District) and Woodcock Preserve (by the Buzzards Bay Coalition Tinkhamtown Woodlands, on Long Plain Road) feature large vernal pools with egg masses.Trail maps showing the location of the pool and trails at each preserve can be downloaded from www.mattlandtust.org.
