Mattapoisett Fire and Police Departments responded to a report of a capsized sailboat in Mattapoisett Harbor at 2:31 p.m. on Monday afternoon. No one was injured.

Fire Chief Andrew Murray reported that the boat was approximately half a mile from shore, and the mast was stuck in the mud.

The sailor had managed to upright the vessel as the Fire Department’s rescue boat arrived on the scene. Wareham and Marion Harbormasters Departments also responded to the report.

Murray said the man was wearing a dry suit. The rescue boat escorted him to the shore where paramedics examined him. He chose not to go to the hospital.

Murray said the rescue team was able to reach the sailboat within 16 minutes of receiving the call, which included taking the winterized rescue boat out of a local boatyard.

“It was a great collaborative effort between the Police and the Fire Department,” he said.
