Mattapoisett Police announce smartphone app
On Monday, the Mattapoisett Police Department announced a new mobile application that will help residents connect with law enforcement.
Available on Android phones and the iPhone, MyPD is a free app that includes department contacts, feedback and crime tip forms, and alerts.
The smartphone app also has options to get information from FEMA, the National Weather Service, and the National Terror Advisory System. Other uses within the program include links for wanted persons, sex offenders, and blog posts.
To download the app, search for My Police Department or MyPD in the iPhone or Android marketplace.
Once downloaded, choose the location information, which will lead to the Mattapoisett Police.
According to Chief Mary Lyons, users can send crime tips, questions, and feedback through the program.
Forms can be sent anonymously to the department, but Lyons said an email address or phone number must be given to get a response to any questions.
Users have the availability to upload photos with the app tip and feedback forms.
Lyons cautioned that the app, like email and other social media, is not suitable for emergency situations, but is for routine questions and information sharing. As always, 9-1-1 is the method for emergency situations or response.
More information on the MyPD app can be found on the Mattapoisett Police website at www.mattapoisettpolice.com and at the MyPD police app website MyPDapp.com.
