Mattapoisett road improvement update
Several road-related items were discussed at Tuesday night’s Selectmen meeting.
Roadwork: As roadwork begins on Barstow, Canon and Pearl streets, Town Administrator Mike Gagne encouraged library visitors to park at Shipyard Park if they are able.
“We’re going to have an extremely limited amount of parking on the streets,” he said.
Bus safety: Selectmen also approved the installation of signs on Shaw Street to prevent people from parking near the corner.
Public Safety Officer Justin King requested the signs because recently cars have parked so close to the Route 6 intersection that buses coming out of Old Hammondtown School have had to pull out into oncoming traffic.
Route 6 sidewalks: Gagne also reported that the Massachusetts Department of Transportation has appropriated $75,000 toward new sidewalks from the Fairhaven border to Main Street on Route 6. Rep. Bill Straus supported the move, said Gagne.
