Mattapoisett School Committee approves 2013 budget
With minimal increases from last year and no staff cuts, the Mattapoisett School Committee approved a budget of $5,752,725 on Monday, April 9.
“We worked very closely with the town and received their support as we tried to move this funding forward to cover our expenses for the upcoming year,” said Superintendent Doug White during the final public hearing before the board voted.
At the request of the Mattapoisett Select Board and Finance Committee, the original budget proposed in November was reduced by $47,113.
That left a 1.05 percent increase in the budget.
Committee Chair Gracinda Knox said the budget’s increase is similar to that of the past three years.
“We’re very fortunate that with a one percent increase our staffing has stayed much the same,” said White. “We won’t see a reduction in services overall.”
