Mattapoisett student earns Yaeger Music Scholarship
The Clement L. Yaeger Music Scholarship Committee announced that a Mattapoisett student has been awarded a scholarship to help further his education in music performance, music education or music therapy at the undergraduate or graduate college level.
Michael Bliss is a graduate of Old Rochester Regional High School entering his third year at the New York University Steinhardt School. He is continuing to pursue a degree in music performance, to be followed by graduate studies in music education. Recent performances this year have been with the NYU Jazz Orchestra at Lincoln Center and at The Blue Note in Greenwich Village. This is his third award from the Yaeger Music Scholarship Fund.
The scholarship is named for Clement L. Yaeger, an enthusiastic music lover. He was a resident of Fairhaven and worked as a librarian for the New Bedford Public Library for 51 years before retiring in 1945 as a chief assistant librarian. The scholarship was established in 1963 as a result of his will leaving money for scholarships to assist talented students in the fields of music, art, and library work.
