Mattapoisett tastes the town at annual event
MATTAPOISETT — The Tri-Town community got a “Taste of the Town” on Tuesday, July 11 at Shipyard Park.
Hosted by the Mattapoisett Woman’s Club, the 19th annual Taste of the Town event brought together hungry people to sample food from Mattapoisett restaurants like Nick’s Homemade Pizza, The Inn at Shipyard Park, Uncle Jon’s, Turks, Rustico and more.
“It’s a great partnership with the restaurants,” said Mattapoisett Woman’s Club President Sandy Hering. “Many of the restaurants have been here for 19 years and keep coming back.”
According to Hering, the proceeds from the event go back to the Mattapoisett Woman’s Club and help to fund the group’s three annual scholarships.
The restaurants set up tables in the Lions Club’s big white Harbor Days tent at Shipyard Park while The Showstoppers sang tunes at the nearby gazebo.
“It’s so much fun to see people enjoying the music from The Showstoppers, the food from the restaurants — just an annual event to see people who they might not have seen since last summer,” said Hering. “It’s a lot of fun.”
Libby Cammiso and Sean Madden, who are from Washington D.C., both stopped by to taste the town.
“[I’ve] been going to Taste of the Town for so many years and it’s a tradition,” said Cammiso. “There were some new things … I liked that there was a different selection but I wish there was some of the old stuff too.”
This year the event welcomed Rustico for the first time, said Hering.
Madden, who described himself as “a foreigner to these lands,” experienced Taste of the Town for the first time.
“[Cammiso knows] these restaurants, but for me it’s more of a taste of the town because I don’t know what I’m getting myself into,” said Madden, who said he “found new stuff” and would probably come back.
