Members of the Mattapoisett Woman’s Club were honored for their volunteer work at the Newport Mansions at a luncheon on April 9 that created a new program to honor such volunteers.

The luncheon was hosted by the Preservation Society to celebrate its new Preservation in Volunteers (or VIP) event. It took place in the Breaker’s Stable in Newport, a restaurant filled with antique carriages.

Bill Corcoran, guest speaker at the event praised 450 volunteers, including Mattapoisett’s Janet Liljedahl, Roxanne Bungert, Elaine Botelho, Marianne Hickey, Erin Burlinson, Sue Mitchell and Sharon Doyon, for help with landscaping, welcoming guests, working the Newport Flower Show, decorating for the holidays, and working the Newport Wine and Cheese festival.
