Mattapoisett's Taste of the Town to offer good food for a good cause
Tuesday, July 17 is being declared a no-diet day by the Mattapoisett Women’s Club as local restaurants bring their best dishes to the Taste of the Town.
Now in it’s ninth year, the event has built a reputation as a smorgasbord the whole family can enjoy.
“I like to say that we have delicious offerings from Mattapoisett’s finest eating establishments,” said Eileen Marum, one of the organizers for the event. “It’s sure to get a lot of people hooked.”
Fifteen Mattapoisett eateries will participate in Taste of the Town, Marum said.
With seafood from Turks, finger food from Ying Dynasty and cold soups from How on Earth, she said, “There is food to please just about any palate, from the most sophisticated to a child of four. There will be a vast culinary landscape.”
And don’t worry, Marum said there will be plenty of desserts to round out the meal.
Aside from the gastronomical benefits, the proceeds from the event will go towards scholarships for college-bound high school students from Mattapoisett.
This year the Women’s Club gave away $4,000 to local students, one of the biggest amounts in the group’s history, said Marum.
She said that, along with the recent garden tour, the Taste of the Town will be one of the largest scholarship fundraisers this year.
Marum hopes it will also draw people to the event.
“Many are interested in supporting the club’s mission: education and philanthropy.”
The event runs from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, July 17 at Shipyard Park.
Tasting tickets will be sold in increments of 20 for $10 and can be purchased at the event.
