Mattapoisett's young artists put their art on display
The annual Mattapoisett elementary school art show proved that local kids have plenty of imagination.
"I really like having it in the spring," said art teacher Greta Anderson. "We have the most variety."
Students from kindergarten through sixth grade chose their favorite piece of artwork to display at Center School for Tuesday's show.
Fourth grader Erin Eilersen wanted to display her photo of a robot with her own face.
"I liked how I shaded it," she said.
Her friend Rylie Coughlin picked her drawing of the 6 foot, 2 inch tall "Dr. Mimi" in front of a hospital. The project started with students posing as models for their peers and then each artist turned the pose into the drawing of their choice.
Many kindergarteners shared their princess drawings, fourth graders their robot self-portraits and sixth graders their emoji.
Anderson said seeing the artwork of older grades gives her students a peek at future projects.
"It gets kids excited about what's coming up," she said.
