Medical trainings, manicures, movies and more at the Mattapoisett COA

MATTAPOISETT — Medical trainings, manicures, movies and tax information are February themes at the Mattapoisett Council on Aging. 

The Senior Center will hold ten minute hearing aid check-ups (including cleaning and adjustments) and basic hearing examinations on the first Monday of every month. In February that will fall on Feb. 3 from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. 

The Senior Center will hold a CPR and defibrillator training for parents, grandparents and anyone else who is not a first responder or healthcare provider and would like to take the course. That class will cost $35, with the option to purchase a $10 card. The course will be held on Feb. 8 from 9 a.m. to noon. 

The COA will host sophomore cosmetology students to offer free manicures to seniors on Tuesday Feb. 11. Students can help with filing, buffing, hand massages, and applying clear or colored polish. Manicures start at 10 a.m. and will start every half hour until 11:30 a.m. Call 508-758-4110 for more information. 

On Tuesday, Feb. 25 the COA will hold two events. One is a transportation information session, to learn about the various public transportation services in the area, including rides for people who have physical or other disability challenges.  Mandy from the Southeastern Regional Transit Authority will share information and answer questions. 

Her information session will take place from 11:30 to 11:50 a.m. At noon on the same day, the Council on Aging will host a screening of “JUDY,” which tells the story of Judy Garland. The movie is free, but pizza is $1 per slice.  

The Department of Revenue’s Brian Lynch will present the benefits of the Senior Circuit Breaker Tax Credit. Certain residents over 65 who own or rent their primary residence are eligible for this refundable tax credit.  Eligibility includes but is not limited to Massachusetts income not more than: $60,000 for single residents; $75,000 for heads of households and $90,000 for married couples filing jointly   To learn more, attend the information session on Feb. 27 at noon. Lunch will be available. Registration is required.
