Memorial garden sought
Town employees hope the memory of Helene Craver will live on at a memorial planned for the Marion Town House. Craver, who spent 23 years as secretary to the Board of Selectmen, passed away earlier this month.
She had a passion for gardening, and bird watching. Town Administrator Paul Dawson said town employees are exploring the possibility of putting a plaque and memorial garden near the gazebo on Town House property.
He made the Board of Selectmen aware of the plan at their meeting Tuesday night.
“This is a great way to honor Helene,” Chair Jonathan Dickerson said.
Tentatively, plans include cleaning the gazebo, installing flower beds, and placement of a bird bath. Dawson said money for the project would be privately raised and no town funds will be spent.
Town employee memorials are not unprecedented, he noted. There are several plaques outside the building.
