Motorists in search of gas cause traffic jam at Cumberland Farms
With 97 percent of NSTAR's Marion customers still without power on Sunday after the winter storm hit the region, many flocked to Cumberland Farms to stock up on gas to power their generators.
The store opened Sunday morning and is being powered on generators. The gas station was so busy on Sunday that Marion Police were on hand to direct traffic at the store, located at the intersection of Route 6 and Route 105 on Wareham Road.
The line of cars waiting to get to the gas pumps stretched down Route 6 near the Dunkin Donuts and down Front Street.
While NSTAR has reported that it could take days before the power is restored, Marion Police Chief Lincoln Miller advised residents to be patient.
"I'm sure people are getting aggravated. I would just caution that they need to be patient and work through this the best they can," Miller said.
