Mattapoisett sees highest count in months

New cases lower in Marion, Rochester

New covid cases declined in the Tri-Town after reaching a three-month high in the week leading up to Aug. 12.

Marion and Rochester each saw a decline in cases — from three to two and 17 to eight, respectively — in the week leading up to Aug. 19. While Mattapoisett saw an increase from seven to 12, the overall new case count lowered from 27 to 22 compared to the week prior.

New cases have been on the decline in Marion for two weeks in a row, after reaching a recent high of six the week of Aug. 5.

Rochester cases have spiked the highest in recent weeks, reaching 17 the week of Aug. 12.

The week leading up to Aug. 19 reflects Mattapoisett’s highest new case count since May 6, when the town recorded 17 new cases.

While cases have lowered, vaccination rates have largely steadied in recent weeks, only rising in Rochester the week leading up to Aug. 19.

Marion and Mattapoisett each have 84% of their residents vaccinated with at least one dose of a covid vaccine, and 76% of residents fully vaccinated.

Rochester’s vaccination rate rose 1% in both categories, to 64 and 58%, respectively.
