New dates for weaving, mending workshops

Apr 17, 2022

MARION — The Marion Art Center, 80 Pleasant St., has changed the dates of two upcoming workshops.

Visible Mending with Sashiko with Instructor Crickett Warner will now take place 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, April 30.

Participants can experience the renewed trend of repairing clothing with traditional Japanese mending techniques and patterns. Using thread and needles specifically made for sashiko stitching, most students will complete one patch during the workshop, and some may finish up the last bits at home.

Patterns and directions will be provided.

Denim jeans will be available to practice on, but it's best for students to bring their own (holes not required) so the creations can be worn. The cost for the three-hour workshop is $60 for Marion Art Center members and $65 for nonmembers, plus a $10 materials fee per student.

Register online and see the full list of provided materials at marionartcenter.org/adult-classes.

Instructor Lisa Elliott’s new session of Weaving on a Rigid Heddle Loom has also been postponed and will now run Tuesdays May 3 to 31 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at the Marion Art Center studio.

The cost is $150 for center members and $160 for nonmembers, and the class is limited to six students. Students will weave either a scarf, table runner, set of placemats, or set of tea towels. Looms and weaving equipment are provided, but students will provide their own yarns.
