New electric vehicles arrive in Marion
The three new electric vehicles were delivered to Marion Town House on Monday morning. The vehicles are all the 2015 BMW i3 model, and two of them are silver while one is a darker gray.
The vehicles came from the BMW Gallery of Norwell, who are leasing the cars for $7,703 a piece. The state reimburses the town for $7,500 per vehicle, which leaves the town $203 to pay per car. Over the course of three years that comes to less than $6 per month.
Marion’s Board of Health, Department of Public Works and Council on Aging will each receive a vehicle. The i3 gets 124 miles per gallon on electricity, and gets roughly 100 miles driving around town on a full charge.
The i3 will be replacing the older Crown Victoria models that the town used, which got about 18 miles per gallon, and it is estimated it will save the town $8,496 over the course of the three-year lease.
The vehicle was the recipient of the Green Car Journal’s 2015 Green Car of the Year award and was the Kelley Blue Book’s 2015 10 Best Green Car winner.
The town also received $10,500 for charging stations for the vehicles, which will be located at the Marion Town House, Wastewater Treatment Plant and possibly one other location. They will be available for public use as well.
