New ice cream truck to operate in Mattapoisett
This summer, the neighborhoods and beaches of Mattapoisett may be a little sweeter with the arrival of a new ice cream and shaved ice truck. On Tuesday night, Chris Johnson and Jaime LeBlanc of Jaime’s Hawaiian Ice received permission to sell their icy sweets in town.
The couple recently moved to town from Fairhaven where they already operate their 1976 truck.
Selectmen were OK with the truck, but wanted to make sure the music was up to snuff.
Selectmen Jordan Collyer asked if it used real bells.
“Real bells and electric,” said Johnson. “They’re nice songs. We don’t blast it the whole time.”
Collyer said the pair could operate on town properties except for the wharf area where the Slip has a license.
The location of the truck is announced on the company’s Facebook page each day.
