New Marion ambulance, special stretcher arrive in town

MARION — Town Administrator Jay McGrail informed Selectmen at their March 31 meeting that a new ambulance had arrived in town on March 30.

The top official said that he and Select Board Chair Randy Parker got to see the ambulance, and that it would be in use in the community in the next few weeks.

Although the March 31 meeting was held remotely, and there were no participants from the public, McGrail still thanked town residents for approving the funds for the new vehicle.

The town approved $325,000 at the May 2019 Annual Town Meeting to purchase a new ambulance to replace a 2008 Ford ambulance that the town owned.

When asked about the new ambulance, Chief Jackvony said that the manufacturing process was without delays. He also gave a huge amount of credit to the Marion Emergency Medical Technician Association for donating a power stretcher to go with the ambulance.

This piece of equipment minimizes the risk to paramedics and Emergency Medical Technicians while lifting patients into the ambulance. It cost $18,000. The association has donated $200,000 to the Fire Department over the last 20 years or so, Jackvony said.
