Next stop for Santa: The streets of Mattapoisett

Dec 19, 2020

MATTAPOISETT — He checked all the lists of the kids in Rochester, and now he’s checking them twice in Mattapoisett.

With the help of the town’s Fire Department, Santa Claus, Mrs. Claus and the elves rode through the streets of Mattapoisett on Saturday, greeting kids eager to see the man in red and bringing some Christmas joy to families.

The event comes at a time where the town had to cancel its Christmas tree lighting ceremony, and the Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 63 had to call off its annual holiday event with Santa at Ned’s Point Lighthouse.

But the Mattapoisett Fire Department helped Santa make sure he could check if all the children of Mattapoisett were good this year and wave hello (from a distance, of course.)

The parade route started at 11 a.m. and made sure as much ground in the town was covered. The trucks went as far north as Wolf Island Road and North Street, as far south as Mattapoisett Neck Road, as far east as Aucoot Road, as far west as Brandt Island Road, and all through the village with a loop around Ned’s Point.
