No new cases in Marion; Rochester, Mattapoisett in ‘green’

Mar 6, 2021

Marion recorded no new cases of covid last week, as Rochester shifted down to a “green” designation in March 4 state covid data.

Mattapoisett remained green with just three new cases, after recording 11 in Feb. 25 data.

New cases in Marion dropped from 17 to 0, the first time the town has recorded no new cases since early October.

In Rochester new cases rose from four to five, but the town’s active case total was low enough to bring it to a “green” designation in the state’s color-coded risk designation system.

In the risk designation system, less than or equal to 10 cases designates a community as gray, between 10 an 15 cases puts a community in green, less than or equal to 25 cases marks a town as yellow, and communities with more than 25 cases are designated as red.

The state’s weekly data doesn’t provide an exact number of active cases, but shows a two-week rolling total of cases. The numbers used to calculate the risk designation are separate from the rolling total.

There are three active cases in the Old Rochester Regional School District, according to its covid dashboard, with one case each at the High School, Rochester Memorial School and Sippican School.

There are three individuals related to the district in quarantine at the Junior High, two at Sippican School, and 10 at Rochester Memorial School.
