No towns in ‘red,’ according to state data

Feb 27, 2021

Despite new cases of covid increasing in Marion and Mattapoisett this week, all three towns have shifted down from a “red” designation in the state’s color-coded risk designation system.

New cases in Marion and Mattapoisett rose this week, with 17 new cases in Marion and 11 in Mattapoisett. Last week, Marion had 14 new cases and Mattapoisett had two.

Despite the increase in cases in both towns, Marion shifted from a “red” designation to “yellow” and Mattapoisett shifted from “yellow” to “green”

In the state’s color-coded risk designation system, less than or equal to 10 cases designates the community as gray, between 10 an 15 cases puts a community in green, less than or equal to 25 cases marks a town as yellow, and communities with more than 25 cases are designated as red.

Rochester remained in the “yellow” this week, reporting four new cases, down from seven last week. This is the lowest new cases have been in the town since mid-November.

In the Old Rochester Regional School District, cases have so far remained in the single digits at each school, following students’ return from February break.

There are six active cases at ORRHS, two at Old Hammondtown, Rochester Memorial and Sippican Schools, one at the Junior High, and no cases at Center School.

In addition, there are five individuals throughout the district currently in quarantine.

State-level and school district covid data are released every Thursday.
