November Rochester Council on Aging events

Volunteers needed – The Rochester Council on Aging is looking for volunteers to help in the following areas:
Breakfast program – Substitute cooks, assistant cooks, waitresses and dishwashers as well as one permanent cook are needed for one morning a week or as available.
Monday lunchtime cook – A cook is needed once a month to prepare on site, either soup and sandwich or a barbecue lunch for approximately up to 30 people with dessert. All expenses will be reimbursed.
Election traffic patrol – Help is needed to control vehicle and pedestrian traffic flow on Nov. 8 for the presidential Election. Two hour shifts inside and outside of the building are needed.
Jigsaw puzzle sale on Election Day, Nov. 8 – Stock up for the winter with a selection of gently used jigsaw puzzles for sale in the conference room at the Senior Center.
November COA day trips
- Friday, Nov. 4 – Foliage ride and lunch at Montponsett Inn, Halifax. Leave at 11 a.m., return at 3 p.m. Order from the menu. There will also be a stop at the Dollar Store in Carver.
- Sunday, Nov. 27 – Castleberry Faire at Shriner's Auditorium in Willmington with more than 250 vendors. The cost is $8. There is food onsite. Leave at 9 a.m. and return at 5 p.m.
Monthly Programs at the Rochester Senior Center

The Pampered Chef, Linda Medeiros, returns on Monday, Nov. 14 at 11:30 a.m. to share her cooking demonstration. Stay for lunch at noon. Once the demonstration is over sample the results. You don’t have to be present for the demo to enjoy the lunch. A suggested donation of $4 per person is appreciated. Anyone may attend. Call in advance to sign up and for a ride at 508-763-8723.

Monday soup and sandwich - Come for lunch on Mondays at noon for a meal of soup and sandwich. A different soup and sandwich will be offered each week. Dessert and beverage is also included. All are welcome but call in advance at 508-763-8723. Suggested donation is $4. If you have a soup recipe to share, let them know.

Congregate lunches – Hot meals for seniors are offered on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays at 11:30 a.m. at the Senior Center. A voluntary donation of $2 per meal is requested. Call the Senior Center at least one day in advance to reserve a meal operated by Coastline. All older adults may attend.

Mike and Ann’s Special Luncheon will be held on Monday, Nov. 28 at noon. Anyone is welcome to attend this event but advance signup is required. The menu is usually a surprise. There is a suggested donation of $4 per person. Call for a ride.

Monthly Senior Book Club will meet at the Senior Center on Tuesday, Nov. 18 at 10:15 a.m. Anyone is welcome to attend. Rochester’s Library Director Gail Roberts will facilitate the group. The November book is “The Paris Architect” by Charles Belfoure. Call Roberts at Plumb Library, 508-763-8600, any questions about the group or reading list.
Fitness Room notice – The Fitness Room Program is now open five days a week for four hours each day. The schedule is as follows: Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, 8-12 p.m., Tuesday 12-4 p.m. The program is now monitored by Andrea Meunier. There is a monthly membership fee of $10 per person due on the first of each month. Members may use the Fitness Room as many times as they wish. Anyone of any age is welcome to be a member.

Ye Olde Breakfast Shoppe – Open for Mondays-Fridays, 7-9 a.m. This is sponsored by the Friends of the Rochester Senior Center and Rochester Lions Club. Anyone of any age and any town may attend. The breakfast menu varies with weekly specials and reasonable prices, plus a bottomless cup of coffee. The shop is closed weekends, holidays and snow days.
- New release DVD movies are shown on Fridays at 1:30 p.m. Anyone is welcome to attend this free event. Call by Wednesday to find out what movie will be playing that Friday.
