Officer gives schools kids ABCs of bus safety

Sep 23, 2016

Mattapoisett Police Officer Justin King spent the day teaching Mattapoisett students about bus safety at Center School and Old Hammondtown School.

The yearly event only takes about 20 minutes, but it reminds kids how to behave on and around buses.

King told kids to always give buses a 10-foot berth, to keep their shoes tied and to be free of anything dangling on their person that could get stuck, and to leave everything on the bus if they have to evacuate in an emergency.

He also pointed out the number of exits, eight, and told students not to run after a ball that rolls under a bus.

“We do not go get the ball, even if it's signed by Brady,” said King.
