Old Colony students qualify for SkillsUSA National Championships

ROCHESTER — Three Old Colony Regional Vocational Technical High School students qualified for the SkillsUSA National Championships where they will compete in Atlanta, Georgia from June 23 to June 27.

The SkillsUSA Championships showcase “America’s most highly skilled career and technical education students,” according to the competition website.

Rising senior and Rochester resident Calvin Payne received a gold medal in electrical construction wiring at the state level and will compete at the national championships.

Rising sophomore Gabriella Harkins of Mattapoisett earned a gold medal in sticker design during the state competition and will proceed to nationals.

Hayden Johnson, rising junior and Lakeville resident, qualified for the national championships as well after receiving a gold medal in national tee shirt design.

Alongside the national qualifiers, three students received silver and bronze medals at the state competition.

Graduating senior and Carver resident Alyssa Raymond was awarded a silver medal in technical computer applications.

Victoria Quintin, rising junior and Acushnet resident, secured a bronze medal in extemporaneous speech and graduating senior Derren DaCosta of Lakeville received a bronze medal in technical drafting.
