Old Colony to take on business competition

Old Colony Regional Vocational Technical High School will participate in the Seventh Annual Junior Achievement Titan Business Challenge at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth campus on Tuesday, March 10.

The Junior Achievement Titan Business Challenge is a business strategy competition in which high school students compete n teams using an online, interactive business simulation which provides students with essential business knowledge. The school will compete against an estimated 200 students from 13 other schools.

During the event, student have the chance to win scholarships while gaining insight into the world of business. In addition to developing budgets and interpreting financial reports, students can learn about pricing, production, capital investment, marketing and charitable giving.

To prepare for the competition, students have been practicing the game and learning key business concepts that they will use during the competition. The day of the event, business professionals will reinforce these concepts and offer professional advice through a series of panels.

Teams will then engage in three rounds of play as each team makes decisions under the guidance of a volunteer business mentor.

Junior Achievement of Southern Massachusetts is a nonprofit organization dedicated to giving young people the knowledge and skills they need to own their economic success, plan for their futures, and make smart academic and economic choices.
