Old Rochester district reaches 100 covid cases

Jan 6, 2021

The Old Rochester Regional School District announced has reached 100 total cases of covid since its Sept. 16 reopening.

The district announced its 99th through 105th cases in press releases on Jan. 6. The new cases were found in Sippican School, Old Rochester Regional High School and Rochester Memorial School.

The 105-case total is a reflection of all the cases which have been contracted by students, faculty and staff at the district — not the number of active cases currently in the district.

The individuals who tested positive for the virus at Sippican School, ORRHS and Rochester Memorial were last in school on Dec. 23. The district’s holiday break ran from Dec. 24 to Jan. 3, indicating that the cases were spread within the community.

All schools will continue as normal following the cases, at the recommendation of the Marion and Rochester Boards of Health.

Marion Board of Health Chair Ed Hoffer said at a Nov. 3 meeting that schools would likely be closed if evidence of spread within the schools was found.

It is unknown whether the positive individuals are students, faculty or staff.
