Old Rochester Regional seniors named South Coast Conference Academic All-Stars

MATTAPOISETT — Five Old Rochester Regional High School students have been named South Coast Conference Academic All-Stars.

During a ceremony April 25, seniors Theo Jacobsen, Brenna O'Donnell, Alia Cusolito, Jacob Hadley and Ava McLeod received the honors, which recognizes the top five students of the graduating class of South Coast Conference schools.

Chosen students reflect the National Honor Society’s four pillars — Service, Character, Scholarship and Citizenship — and have positively impacted their schools and community, according to an Old Rochester Regional press release.

Theo Jacobsen is an AP Scholar with distinction and a four-year participant in both DECA and Debate Club. Jacobsen is V.P. of Finance for DECA, debate team captain, and treasurer of the Old Rochester National Honor Society chapter. He will attend Tufts University and plans to study biochemistry.

Brenna O’Donnell is a member of Drama Club, Tea Club, DnD Club Latin Club and a co-founder of Climbing Club. She represented Old Rochester at Girl’s State and earned two silver medals and one gold medal on the National Latin Exam. O’Donnell plans to attend Franklin W. Olin College of Engineering to study general engineering with a concentration in robotics.

Alia Cusolito is a member of the Old Rochester Regional High School Drama Club, National Honor Society, Knit and Crochet Club and Acapella. Cusolito is also president of the GSA Club and as co-president of the nonprofit Queer Youth Assemble led the National March for Queer and Trans Youth Autonomy in Washington D.C. Cusolito received the 2022 Advancing Equity and Justice Award from the MA Commission on LGBTQ+ Youth, an independent state agency, and will be attending Smith College to study public policy.

Jacob Hadley is a co-captain of the debate team, captain of the varsity tennis team, student council treasurer and vice president of the National Honor Society at Old Rochester. Hadley also founded and served as president of the ORR Science Olympiad. He led a research project with the Massachusetts Department of Public Health on the effect of COVID-19 on antibiotic resistance in Massachusetts hospitals and published the study in a scientific journal He will attend Brown University, pursuing a concentration in Biomedical Engineering.

Ava McLeod is president of Old Rochester’s Environmental Club and has served as a member of student council for the past four years, as president of her class and as a class senator. McLeod is also a member of the Community Service Learning Club and plans to attend Bristol Community College where she will study biology.
