Apr 24, 2023

ROCHESTER — Gifford Baseball Field in Rochester was full of life on Monday, April 24 as Old Rochester Youth Baseball began its minor league season with two games on two fields.

On field 5, Team Carriage Shed Automotive played Team Final Inspection Auto Detailing. On field 6 Team Friends Marketplace - Plumb Corner played against Team South Coast Sport and Consignment.

“Here’s how it works — what we’re really going to do today is have a lot of fun,” said Coach Mike Duarte to team Carriage Shed Automotive before the opening pitch. “We haven’t played baseball in a long time, this is our first real game. If you make a mistake, it doesn’t matter. All we want you to do is when you go up there to hit, you try to do your best.”

The players, still shaking off some rust at the start of the season, needed some direction from coaches, but were able to pull off a set of games.

On Tuesday, April 25, the major league will begin its season. Then on Saturday, May 6, the farm league and T-Ball league will open their seasons.
