ORR announces schedule for senior events
Old Rochester Regional High School’s prom and Graduation have been moved to August, and some other senior events will be held only online.
The administrative team has delayed announcing senior plans for weeks as it tried to figure out ways to give students as many in-person ceremonies as possible.
In the schedule it devised, events start in late-May, pause for July and resume again in August. All events are subject to change based on state and local coronavirus guidelines at the time of the event.
But as currently planned, students can pick up their yearbooks at the school on May 28.
For two senior events the school will turn to YouTube releases instead. A scholarships award video will make its premiere on YouTube on June 4. A Decision Day video will debut on YouTube on June 15.
The school will hold prom in at the Belle Mer in Newport Rhode Island on Aug. 4 from 6 to 10 p.m.
Senior Awards Night will take place Aug. 6 at 6:30 p.m. in the Old Rochester Regional gymnasium. Senior Assembly and Senior Walk will be held the next day, Aug. 7, at 10 a.m. in the Old Rochester Regional High School auditorium.
The plan is to hold Graduation at noon on Aug. 8 on Hagen Field.
Old Rochester Regional High School Principal Michael Devoll mentioned at the Old Rochester Regional Joint School Committee on April 13 that he and other administrators across the South Coast brainstormed together on how to hold senior events, as it was a big question on everyone’s mind.
Normal classes have been cancelled though the end of the year by an order from Governor Baker.
Between now and May 28 the school is celebrating Seniors by encouraging families to decorate their front doors and send in photos to the school, which will then be posted on the ORRHS Facebook page.
