ORR Bulldogs hold off Dighton-Rehoboth High to remain undefeated

The Old Rochester Bulldogs survived a last minute drive by the Dighton-Rehoboth Falcons on Saturday, Sept. 29, to remain undefeated on the season.

The game, originally slated for Friday but cancelled due to downpours, was heavily attended by excited fans who rallied the Bulldogs to their fourth win of the season.

Fans were not deterred by the postponement or the cool night. Their voices could still be heard beyond the concession stand and into the parking lot.

The Bulldogs got on the scoreboard early with a pair of rushing touchdowns by senior running back Desmond Dias. The crowd chanted loudly in anticipation of another score in the second quarter, but the offense was slowed by a tough Falcons defense.

With less than 15 seconds to go in the half, the Falcons cut into the lead with a touchdown. Heading into halftime, the crowd was worried that the Bulldogs had lost their momentum.

Following an uneventful third quarter, the Falcons charged down the field to score a game tying touchdown. The next drive by the Bulldogs was long and marred by numerous unsportsmanlike conduct penalties from both teams.

Despite the penalties, the Bulldogs got the job done.

Junior running back Jackson Cote took advantage of some good blocking and scored a touchdown with just over a minute to go.

The Falcons, in what was their last drive of the game, tried to move the ball down the field but was stopped on each play. It was a game-sealing interception which eventually won the game for the Bulldogs.

“That was just a great high school football game,” said ORR Head Coach Justin Kogler. “They were the best team we have played so far.”

Kogler hopes that the team can cut down on the penalties in the fourth quarter.

“We have to be smarter than that, we have to clean that up. I think we got caught up in their game at the end.”

Next week, the Bulldogs face off against Somerset Berkley Regional in an away game.
