ORR lacrosse trounces Coyle and Cassidy High School

The Old Rochester Regional boys lacrosse team is headed to the state's playoff tournament following a convincing win over Coyle and Cassidy High School on Saturday.

The Bulldogs scored 13 goals to Coyle & Cassidy’s 1 and dominated on offense for much of the game. The team’s overall record is now 11 wins and 5 losses. Its South Coast Conference record stands at 7 wins and 1 loss.

Freshman Landon Goguen, and sophomore Chris Nadeau each scored four goals. Junior Hunter Cooney netted three goals while freshman Henry McIntire scored twice.

Goalie Gerald Lanagan had little to do as the offense kept the ball in Coyle and Cassidy territory. Lanagan did notch two saves, one in the first quarter and another in the third.

The regular season ends on Wednesday. Head Coach Erich Carroll said the team is prepared for the playoffs.

“I’m pretty confident,” Carroll said. “The team is getting stronger after every game and they’ve been making the necessary corrections.”

One of those corrections has been to pass more, which will allow the Bulldogs more shots on goal.

“That’s what we need to do to keep opening up scoring opportunities,” Carroll said.

Leading the way this year are a trio of freshman – Goguen, Ethan Lizotte and Charles Tirrell. Lizotte was sidelined on Saturday due to an injury, but should be back in time for the playoffs.

“The team is really stepping up,” Carroll said. “The defense is good, and our goalie is outstanding.”
