MATTAPOISETT — The Old Rochester Regional School District is starting the school year with nearly $300,000 in additional funding.
The Old Rochester Regional School Committee approved $277,468 in grants for community engagement, career support and educational programing at its Thursday, Oct. 1 meeting.
The largest amount the committee approved was a $117,000 state grant for literacy support.
Superintendent Michael Nelson said the grant will support work the district has been doing for the past few years, focusing on young readers from around the ages of 3-6.
The Early Childhood Office, headed by Doreen Lopes, received $75,468 for family and community engagement. While the funds will benefit the Mattapoisett preschool, the funding must go through the district for disbursal.
