ORR senior chosen for Bay State Games
Old Rochester Regional senior Deianeira Underhill has been chosen as a finalist in the Massachusetts Bay State Games.
Underhill, a Rochester resident and ORR varsity softball player for three years, competed with other girls from the area to be in the Bay State Summer Games Softball Showcase. With the team, Underhill will represent the coastal area of the state under the guidance of Sue Harrison, Plymouth North High School's varsity softball coach.
In addition to ORR, Underhill has been active in softball leagues across the South Coast. She played in the Bay State Girls Softball Senior League in New Bedford for the last few years, has pitched u18 for Wareham Blaze Softball Summer League and currently pitches for the u18 Bourne Sharks in the Cape Fastpitch Softball League, plays for the Bay State Sharks on their tournament team, and plays Fall Ball in the Taunton Girls Softball League as a pitcher on the u18 River Hawks.
Underhill was also part of a group of young female athletes who were asked to represent the USA in Italy as a member of the USA Athletes International Softball Team.
Beyond the competition aspect of the games, students may benefit from college scouts who attend the games. The coastal team will play against other regions July 13 to 15 at Veterans Memorial Athletic Complex in Waltham.
