ORR seniors to hold date auction
Old Rochester Regional High School students will soon be going to the highest bidder. To raise money for the senior class, the students are planning a date auction, where the audience can bid on students with proceeds going to pay for expenses such as a gift to the school and senior breakfast.
“We’ve been talking it up to the class and the school,” said senior Erin Murphy. “Everyone seems willing to participate.”
Murphy and class president Abby Hiller said they originally thought the boys in their class would make up the majority of the students on the stage.
“The boys are usually funnier and more confident to go on stage than high school girls,” said Murphy. “When we thought of the idea, we had a lot of boys willing to do it.”
That said, the event will be open to both genders and Hiller said they want a community feel to the event.
“The focus is not purely on the date auction,” she said.
The students plan to seek gift card donations from local businesses that the couples can use for their date. The whole school will be invited to the event, which will require admission.
The ORR School Committee approved the fundraiser unanimously on Wednesday.
