ORR takes down 'the 'ham' at homecoming pep rally

Oct 17, 2014

Hours before the Old Rochester Regional football team faced off against Wareham High, the freshmen, sophomores, junior and seniors had their own battle in the high school gym.

Every year at the homecoming pep rally, the four grades present skits with each group taking down the rival team.

In the freshmen skit, Buddy the Elf left the North Pole to find his father, the ORR football coach.

The sophomore's skit was a play on "The Chronicles of Narnia" with the creatures of the forest trying to best the white (or was it blue?) witch.

Alice tossed the pigskin with the Bulldog in the junior's "Alice in Wonderland" skit, and the seniors did a montage of popular movies, pulling scenes from "Monsters Inc.," "300," "Up" and "Glee."

The students spent at least a week practicing their skits, all hoping to win first place.

"We had people working up here every night," said Principal Mike Devoll.

A group of teachers scored the skits, and the winners were announced at the game on Friday night. The seniors took first place, and in an upset, the freshmen got second place.

While each grade was vying for the win, ultimately, they all wanted one thing: "Beat the 'ham!"

The pep rally was part of the school's homecoming celebration that started earlier in the week. Starting on Tuesday, each school day was a designated dress up day for the student body. Tuesday was pajama day, Wednesday was Hawaiian shirt day, Thursday was twin day and Friday ended the week with school color day.

On Friday night, the Bulldogs football team took the field and beat Wareham 21-12.

The celebration continued on Saturday night at the annual dance homecoming dance that approximately 600 students attended.
