The energy was electric at Gallo Arena on Sunday afternoon as the Old Rochester/Fairhaven boys hockey team took home the Division 3 South championship.

The Bulldogs beat Rockland 3-1 to advance to the Division 3 state semifinals.

It was a tight game, with the teams ending the first period scoreless. But it didn’t take long for the Bulldogs to change that.

Old Rochester/Fairhaven began the second period on a power play and it took Noah Strawn just 14 seconds to find the back of the net.

However, Rockland would tie it up 1-1 with its own power play goal while Landon Goguen sat in the penalty box for the Bulldogs.

The third period opened up with speed and plenty of opportunities for the Bulldogs, including a Strawn breakaway and a shot that most of the crowd thought hit the inside of the post.

However, a few minutes later the Bulldogs would regain the lead. An empty net goal by Sam Henrie with less than a minute remaining would seal the deal for Old Rochester/Fairhaven.

“To come out with this win is spectacular,” head coach Eric Labonte said.

Labonte was thrilled with the win and thrilled with the way his players played, particularly Goguen.

“Landon is huge on this team,” Labonte said. “He’s one of the most patient players I’ve ever coached…He draws people in…He’s spectacular.”

The Bulldogs are back in action Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. at Bright-Landry Arena at Harvard University.
