Planning Board approves Marion Road solar project
The Rochester Planning Board on Tuesday approved a large-scale Meadowatt solar project at 188-190 Marion Road.
The project entails the construction of an access road and a fence around the 3.3-acre property in addition to the installation of the solar panels. Engineers stressed throughout the public hearing period that residents would not be able see the panels from the roadway.
After closing the public hearing and discussing the draft of the decision at the July 12 meeting, the board voted unanimously this week to approve all permits necessary for the project.
The solar farm required three approvals: one for the project itself because it is located in the town's groundwater protection district, a second to approve groundwater protection services and a third for a scenic highway special permit.
The decision comes after months of discussion and site visits. Meadowatt representatives first appeared before the Planning Board in April.
Meadowatt joins other companies such as Melink Corporation and Clean Energy with large-scale solar farms in the town.
