Planning Board expresses thanks, prepares for turnover

May 2, 2017

Two Planning Board members said their farewells at the last regular meeting before the election.

Chair Rob Lane and board member Mike Popitz both decided not to seek re-election for their positions on the May 12 election. Resident Ted North and the other board members took Monday night’s meeting as a chance to say “thank you.”

“[Lane and Popitz] really set the bar for the type of leadership Marion needs,” North said. “For that I wan to give a personal thanks for the contribution to the community.”

Many board members touched on Lane’s leadership and efficiency during his tenure as chairman.

“You did an excellent job, and you made the board more streamlined and efficient,” Eileen Marum said. “I appreciate all he time and effort you put in.”

Jennifer Francis echoed this, and said life was easier for board members with Lane in charge.

“Thanks for being especially efficient and diligent and doing your homework,” she said. “It made our lives easier.”

Lane and Popitz also expressed gratitude to their fellow board members.

“It was a great pleasure working with you,” Lane said. “Most importantly I want to thank you all for being so supportive of me as chair…I wish you all luck.”

Popitz agreed, and said his time on the board was a great experience.

“I care so much about this town and tried over the past few years to do what I could for the people and the town,” he said. “It was a pleasure working with all of you. We got along well and we got a lot done.”

In addition to Lane and Popitz, Marum’s term is also up. Unlike Lane and Popitz, she is seeking re-election. The only other candidate for the two open spots is Norm Hills.
