Plymouth County Sheriff's Department testing emergency notification system

Jul 29, 2011

Residents with listed phone numbers could receive a phone call on August 5 from the Plymouth County Sheriff's Department as part of a countywide test of a new emergency communications system. This new system, named "CodeRED," will enable officials in Plymouth and Bristol County to quickly deliver messages to targeted areas.

Residents have the option to sign-up a cell phone or private number to be activated in an emergency as well.

"CodeRED allows geographically based delivery, which means street addresses are required to ensure emergency notification calls are received by the proper individuals in a given situation," Plymouth County Sheriff Joseph D. McDonald Jr., explained in a press release. "The system works for cell phones too, but we need to have an associated street address to provide relevant messages."

All residents are advised to visit the Sherriff’s Department website at www.PCSDMA.org for more information.
