Poetry month at Mattapoisett Library

The Mattapoisett Library staff, Friends and patrons enjoy celebrating poetry each year and everyone is invited to contribute to the community poem. The idea is new this year and everyone is welcome to add a line or two. The completed poem will be posted online at the end of April.

Poetry readings will be held throughout the month.

At 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 26, award-winning poet Margaret Gibson will read from her work, including her new book being published this fall. The author of ten books of poetry, Gibson holds the title of Professor of English Emeritus from the University of Connecticut. Books will be available for purchase and signing. Refreshments will be served.

On Sunday, April 27 from 2 to 3:30 p.m. poets from the Second Half Lifelong Learning Poetry Sessions will read from their work. Poet and professor Joseph Flynn will read from his work on Wednesday, April 30 at 7 p.m.

The award-winning film "Il Postino" (The Postman) featuring the poetry and life of Pablo Neruda will be shown on Sunday, April 13 at 2 p.m.
