Public input sought on Marion pedestrian safety recommendations

Jul 14, 2022

MARION _ The public is being asked to comment on recommendations to improve pedestrian safety in Marion.

The recommendations include reducing speed limits in the village from 30 to 25 miles per hour, implementing safety zones with a speed limit of 20 mph on Spring Street from Ryder Lane to Main Street and Front Street from Ryder Lane to South Street, and installing a removable speed hump on the southbound direction of Front Street, just north of Island Wharf.

These recommendations were presented to the Select Board at the July 11 meeting. They were developed following a study by the engineering firm of Greenwood Pederson Inc., which was done at the request of the Pedestrian Safety Advisory Committee.

Submit comments to Donna Hemphill at dhemphill@marionma.gov. Comments will be discussed at the Aug. 16 Select Board meeting.

At the same meeting, the committee is scheduled to review safety recommendations for Converse and Point roads. Both locations have been the site of numerous crashes over the past five years, according to the report.
