Quality sleep for a cause: Class of 2024 mattress fundraiser

Apr 30, 2023

The Old Rochester High School class of 2024 can rest easy knowing that they have secured funds for their senior events.

Juniors of Old Rochester held their first mattress sale fundraiser on Sunday, April 30.

The high school gym turned into a mattress showroom with firm and soft mattresses, pillows and even massage accessories for sale.

“It’s been a blast,” said Class of 2024 secretary Andrew Porter. “All the money raised will go back to our class and help for fun events.”

Porter said that the funds will go towards the Class of 2024’s semi-formal and prom and other class events throughout the year.

Junior class co-advisor Mike Nailor said that he saw Dartmouth High host a mattress fundraiser and thought that Old Rochester could host one too.

“I said let’s do it and we will do it at the same time as the theater department's production of Once Upon a Mattress,” said co-advisor Merri Wickman. “That way we have a tie-in.”

The mattresses were provided by Custom Fundraising Solutions, a company that “provides a creative approach for schools trying to raise money.”

“We aren’t selling something that people don’t need,” said Wickman.

According to Wickman, over 10 mattresses have been sold.

“This is our one big fundraiser for the year so it’s super good that people are coming by,” said Class of 2024 Vice President Jackson Veugen.
