Red Sox World Series trophy scheduled to come to Harbor Days
Harbor Days will return to Shipyard Park this summer for its 31st year, but there will be some new things said Mattapoisett Lions Club President Don Bamberger.
The most notable addition to this year’s three-day festival is the Red Sox World Series trophy, which will make an appearance on the Saturday afternoon of the event. Bamberger hopes the trophy will help increase attendance, which was dampened by last year’s high heat and humidity as well as the threat of a thunderstorm.
He admitted he wasn’t exactly sure how best to display the trophy given limited parking and space at Shipyard Park.
“We already max out the parking within three blocks of Shipyard Park,” said Selectman Jordan Collyer. “Crowd control at Shipyard Park will be one issue.”
Collyer said the idea was a good one, but suggested the Center School gym might be a better location to keep traffic under control.
Selectmen told Bamberger to speak with Police Chief Mary Lyons to come up with a plan.
Bamberger also said Harbor Days’ triathlon will continue the weekend before the event. They will hold a fish fry on Friday night as well and change the layout of the booths to allow more air to circulate from the harbor.
Bamberger also said family movie nights in the park, which began last year, will continue with help from a Mattapoisett Cultural Council grant.
