Residents sought to join Rochester committee
ROCHESTER — The Rochester Select Board voted to establish a Zoning Bylaw Review Committee at its meeting on Monday, Oct. 2.
The committee will be tasked with really “digging down into the bylaws,” said Rochester Zoning Board of Appeals Chair David Arancio.
“We believe that there are some areas that need to be fixed from a grammar perspective,” said Arancio, adding that issues also include modernizing the town’s zoning bylaws. “We need to make sure we’re safeguarding the town in certain aspects but also making sure that the bylaws are something that’s efficient as well. I think there’s some growing that we need to do.”
Arancio proposed that the new committee would have seven voting members including three members from the zoning board of appeals, two members from the planning board, two members who are at-large town residents. He also added that there would be non-voting staff consultants.
“I think it creates an opportunity for town residents to get involved,” said Arancio. “This is their community as well.”
The two residents would be appointed by the Select Board. Interested applicants can contact Rochester Town Administrator Glenn Cannon by email at gcannon@townofrochester.com.
