Rochester businesses pass alcohol test by police
You can't pull a fast one in this town.
Rochester's liquor license holders were put to the test Dec. 29 with an underage buyer planted by the Police Department as an "alcohol compliance check."
Needless to say, the clerks at Lloyd's Market, Plumb Corner Market and Adrian's Package as well as staff at Matt's Blackboard requested an ID from the buyer and refused to sell after the buyer said she didn't have an ID.
"I am so pleased that we had 100% compliance from our license holders," said Rochester Police Chief Paul H. Magee. "This is the goal of the compliance check program and because of the efforts of the license holders, we reached that goal today."
The department conducts the compliance checks to help ensure that alcohol is not easily making it into the hands of underage drinkers. The department has been conducting compliance checks since 2004.
The Rochester Golf Course was not checked because they are closed for the season.
